Lake Lure Possble Relocation

My wife, son (6) and daughter (3) are considering relocating to Lake Lure. We know it%26#39;s a beautiful area, but not sure if it makes sense for permanent relocation, with younger kids.

Specifically, had our sights set on being on or very close to the lake.

We understand that the schools are in Rutherfordton, which could make it difficult to get back and forth. Additionally, wonder if there are there full time residents, younger families on or around the lake.

Employment not an issue (work from home).

Any thoughts?

they don%26#39;t like relocation posts on this site so this will probably be closed soon. It is a beautiful area ....look at local papers, visit in off-season...my opinion is that it is more of a retirement area.

Until they close it,--we lived about 40 mins from Lake Lure in SC, rode our motorcycle up there on nice weekends along with hundreads of others, it can get quite busy up there. Its a beautiful place to visit but I would not think it to be an ideal place to raise children, unless you don%26#39;t mind the isolation. School friends will be quite a distance as well as school age activities. The road is narrow and 2 lanes and bad weather can be a big issue. If you want to be close, try Hendersonville, Asheville, Rutherfordton, you can head toward SC and Lake Bowen is just across the border on Hwy 9, and Spartanburg County schools are good, still live on a Lake, (where we use to live) and yet be close to activities and other children. Lure is really probably too isolated and in the winter you will have the road issue to deal with as far as too and from school.
