Raleigh to Outer Banks

What%26#39;s the best route to take from Raleigh to the Outer Banks - Nags Head - Kitty Hawk area. Through Rocky Mount or Greenville area?

Raleigh to Outer Banks

US 64 East all the way. Mostly multilane highway by now.

Raleigh to Outer Banks

Ok, Thanks. Can you suggest what%26#39;s the best/easiest routes to take from the Raleigh airport to US64 east?

Basically just follow I-40 East from RDU to Raleigh...as you go thru the south end of Raleigh it%26#39;ll merge with US-64 East (as well as I-440). Then when you get to the eastern half of Raleigh, US 64 %26amp; I-440 will split from I-40. Then, US 64 East will split again from 440. Then it%26#39;s 64 all the way to the Outer Banks.

So, basically if you just pay very close attention to the signs and exit when they tell you to, you shouldn%26#39;t have any trouble. I-40 East...US 64 East.

if you want to relax and let someone else do the driving the swan quarter to ocracoke ferry is a good deal. make reservations in advance.

if you are going to the north outer banks (duck, kill devill hills area) i wouldnt suggest. if you are going south of rodanthe, avon , hatteras village then this is your ticket to exploration...

the nc ferry system is always accomadating with reasonable prices....

RR, We live in a very small town with 2 lanes and NO traffic lights. Heavy, fast traffic, lane changing and last mintue exits we would rather avoid. Thanks for the directions.

KK, Ok. Thanks.

^ There%26#39;s gonna be some of that around RDU and most of Raleigh. There%26#39;s just no way to avoid it there. But once you get on 64 east of Raleigh, you won%26#39;t have as much to worry about. It%26#39;s multi-lane, but it%26#39;s pretty much rural all the way to the Outer Banks. (Particularly when you get past Rocky Mount %26amp; Tarrboro, it%26#39;ll seem pretty much desolate.)
