Starting from Scratch..Don't know where to Start

OK, so my husband %26amp; I have been thinking about making a trip to High Point for furniture Shopping....Home Office, Dining Room, etc. I have read the past topics in this forum but I%26#39;m not quite sure where to start for info.

First, we are considering cancelling our Florida trip just after Christmas and rescheduling for High Point.

Are most of the showrooms located in a specific location? I%26#39;ve tried to get info from highpoint.org but I%26#39;m not having much luck.

Will most furniture showrooms be open in the 2 weeks after Christmas? We are unsure of specific travel dates.

Also, I have read about the Hickory Furniture Mart. Is this similar to the High Point Mart? I know that High Point Market is only open to the trade (april %26amp; October) but is Hickory the same? Is it easier to shop than High Point?

What are the closest airports (arriving from Toronto) to both High Point and Hickory?

Sorry so many questions but I%26#39;m clueless about NC. Any adice is appreciated.

Thank You

Hi:

There is not one retail furniture store/mart in High Point. There are several in the area. In Hickory, you have several as well - but you do have the Hickory Furniture Mart which has many stores under one roof. You will see more in Hickory in a more compact area. There are fine stores in High Point area - but you%26#39;ll drive from one to the other.Additionally, from Hickory you can drive about 40 minutes north to Blowing Rock and the Broyhill Gallery is there.

I want to make sure you know that most furniture is not made in the Hickory or High Point area anymore. Most plants have gone out of the country due to NAFTA and GATT. Some high-end pieces are still made here, but not much.

As far as airports - for Hickory you would fly into Charlotte and drive about 50 minutes north. For HIgh Point area, you%26#39;d probably want to fly into Greensboro. Or into Charlotte and drive a little less than 2 hours up I-85. Depends on the best fares available.

Most of the stores are retail stores and will be open. I know of few if any manufacturers stores ( other than Broyhill in Blowing Rock) that sell to the public. One is Boyles Furniture. Check out boyles.com and it will give you an idea of what to expect in furniture shopping in NC. There are helpful tips there.

One word of caution- the weather is usually nice, but from Hickory north in winter there can be a little snow - not likely, but possible. But, if you are from Canada, that%26#39;s nothing to you! LOL.

Best wishes.
