June 08 - which hotel, when to book, what to do

We are planning a trip to the Outer Banks in June of 2008, and I am looking for some advice on where to stay. We would like to stay on the beach, probably in Kitty Hawk, Nags Head or Kill Devil Hills. We are not looking for anything expensive, just nice and clean, with easy access to activities, restaurants, etc. Also wondering how soon we would need to book a hotel, we would probably need 3 nights (June 10-13th)?

The trip would consist of myself, husband and 13 year old daughter, so I am looking for advice as to what are some of the best things to see and do, and what are some good, but casual places to eat. We like to be outdoors, and are somewhat adventurous.

Does anyone know how long of a drive it is from Williamsburg VA to the Outer Banks, and also how long it is from Raleigh to the Outer Banks.

Thanks

Book the sooner the better. Not sure what your budget is but there are plenty of listing for hotels there just do a search for it or look in the Outer banks connection they list every thing there

The trip from Williamsburg will be about 3 hours not too sure of Raleigh but I’m guessing 4 hrs

Make your reservations as soon as possible. I highly recommend the Blue Heron Motel at Mile Post 15.5 on the beach road in Nags Head. Not fancy or expensive, but the cleanest place I have ever stayed. We stay there two or more times a year. Right on the beach, with a view of the ocean from every room. Recommend the second floor for a great view. The view on the first floor is partially blocked by the dunes. The owners are on site, and very friendly and helpful.

About 2 to 3 hours from Williamsburg. We combine the two places on most of our trips.

Pick up a Sunny Day book at the motel. It will list everything there is to do, with many coupons.

If you like seafood, the Dunes restaurant is the place for a family to eat. They have a kids menu.

Welcome to OBX (Outer Banks). It%26#39;s our second home. I hope to retire there.

Go to www.sunnydayguide.com and www.VGNet.com for ideas of places to see and things to do. As an outdoors type family I would suggest climbing Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, visiting the Wright Brothers Memorial, hang-gliding lessons at Jockey%26#39;s Ridge State Park, wondering thru Nags Heads Woods or the Elizabethan Gardens. There%26#39;s plenty of stores, museums, putt-putt golf, go-carts, boat and sea-doo rentals to keep you busy the entire 3 days. Let you daughter look on line or order the brochures and do some of the choosing/planning herself. It%26#39;ll be fun. Plus, you%26#39;all will want to come back and spend more time on your next trip to the southeast coastline.
