Weather Late Sept/Early Oct

I am doing some research for a Fall %26#39;08 family vacation along the eastern seaboard. What temps would I expect for OBX the first week in October?

When I lived in Raleigh 15-20 years ago a group of co-workers would rent a place in the OBX in the Fall to take advantage of the warm trade winds and lower rents. The trip was always in September and I remember glorious ambient and water temps.

Any comments of what the weather is like in early October? Big Brother will be coming down from the northwoods and insists that wherever we decide it must be warm....we like to keep Big Brother happy.

Since I have been away for so long, I would appreciate anyone pointing me to best towns for casual restaurants, seafood markets.

Thanks!

Weather Late Sept/Early Oct

Generally, the weather is still warm, although the water temps will be cooling off, to be comfortable you may need a wet suit for swimming.

Keep in mind that hurricane season will still be in full swing, a variable that you cannot predict.

Crowds will be light all up and down the coast. If you enjoy lots of shopping and a more touristy feel, Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills is for you.

Further North in Duck and Corolla it is more laid back, and upscale.

Further south is very laid back, less crowds, more natural settings. Still lots to choose from for shopping and restaurants, fewer ';chain'; type places.

Check out the Corolla, Nags Head, Ocracoke, Avon, and Hatteras forums, they are filled with info.

Weather Late Sept/Early Oct

October is my favorite time of year out here. We were last swimming at the end of October this year when the water temp was in the low 70s. It was still beautiful and the beaches are so un crowded. More and more people are catching on to the fact that the beach is so nice here then and our season is staying strong longer and longer...

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I agree with all the above...it was a beautiful fall this year, and October was better than September. Its not always that warm, but beautiful. Birding and fishing are excellent in October too.

We were in the OBX the first week of october this past year and the weather was wonderful! (Though it did rain one night)

The weather during the day was in the 70%26#39;s...but once the sun started to set it seemed to cool off fast, we were staying on the beach in a hotel and the water temps i am sure had something to do with that. The water was nice to walk/wade in but to cold for swimming in the kill devil hills area, however, when we went down to Hatteras and Ocracoke it was probably at least 10 degrees warmer on both land and water!

It was also a nice time to visit because it was considered *off season* to most, so rates were low, was less crowded, all the shops were still open and had a lot of great sales since they were getting ready to close for the season!

I would go back during this time of year!

I love OBX in the fall. That is why I got married there October 06. The weather is generally warm that time of year, and beautiful, plus most of the tourist are gone!

The down side is hurricane season is in full swing, so that possiblity does exist. But that is a rare, so no worries.

Have a great time!
