Ski weekend from Atlanta

I am currently trying to plan a trip in the near future to go skiing. There will be 4-6 guys, ages 27-30 on this trip. We will be traveling from Atlanta, GA. What is the best ski resort to go to for a weekend trip from Atlanta? All of the people on this trip are intermediate to advanced skiers, and one fearless snowboarder.

Any help would be appreciated. I know the conditions will not be what I am use to in Colorado but I%26#39;ll take what I can get. What would be the best time to go to get the best ski conditions?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Pretty much anything you would need to know can be found there.

Cataloochee at Maggie Valley would be your best choice for a weekend. It is about 4 hours from Atlanta.I would go after a cold spell or a recent snow.

I really like Sugar Mountain for skiing. They have the best snow in my opinion

I hate to go negative but skiing in NC is not worth the money or the trouble. For the money you would spend on accomodations and lift tickets you would be better off flying to Denver or SLC.

The problem is that most of the snow is man made--read that : sheet of ice. The runs are extremely short compared with the western resorts and it actually takes longer to ride the lift up than it does to ski down to the bottom.

Snowshoe Mountain in WV had two runs that came close but still far below even the shortest runs out west.

Personally, my family enjoys going to Brighton outside of Salt Lake. You can get discout tix at the in town rental places, they have ski buses that go up to all the resorts from all the downtown hotels and you can always find a hotel for cheap.

After all is said and done, you won%26#39;t have paid much more if anything, but you will have skiied a whole lot more.

Check out the Pinnacle Inn Resort pinnacleinn.com I highly reccomend this place 1 1/2 mile from Ski Beech Resort 8 miles from Sugar Mountain Ski Resort and 30 minutes from Hawks Nest and 45 minutes from Appalacian Ski They offer a free shuttle to Ski Beech compliments of Ski Beech
