Weekend Trip To Wilmington

We are driving to Wilmington this Friday from Huntersville, NC. We are staying at the Hilton on the river. We already know that we want to see the USS North Carolina (I was in the Navy during Viet Nam), but not sure what to do after that.......any suggestions. This is our first visit to Wilmington and our FIRST visit to see the Atlantic Ocean. We are in our late 50%26#39;s and want to do some sightseeing, but nothing with to much activity involved.

Weekend Trip To Wilmington

Well this is a small historical town and there are a few things that u can do. I would recommend driving down to Ft. Fisher and touring that, then hit the aqaurium (it is rather small but cute), then follow that same road to hit the ferry over to Southport 25 minute boat ride (5 bucks for u and the car)Then visit some of the shops and see some sites there. You can come back by way of road and hit Brunswick town (revolutionary war site)then continue on back to downtown. Essentially this tour is one big circle leading u back to your hotel. And if your sweety wants to do some shopping I%26#39;d recommend the cotton exchange, (close to where u will be staying) and Mayfaire town center which is like an outdoor mall and we have a beautiful movie theater there as well. Weekend Trip To Wilmington

Between the USS North Carolina and maybe going to the Fort Fisher Aquarium, that should give you a decent amount of ';sight-seeing'; for a weekend.

I%26#39;d spend the rest of the time doing more laid-back stuff there in downtown near your hotel. It%26#39;s Xmas season afterall...I%26#39;d get some nice window shopping done around all those great little shops there. (Sure beats dealing with the malls later.)

Enjoy the other stuff downtown too like walking along the river, looking at the Victorian homes, dining in some of the bistros/cafes, and so on. You%26#39;re in the non-touristy season so it%26#39;s a great time to get some relaxation done. Hope your trip is great!

We are going kids Feb vacation (from Maine, so do not want to see snow, but realize it won%26#39;t be beach weather either)- are flying into Wilmington I think...have tix to a UNC basketball game, and was hoping to head towards the coast the rest of the week. Any suggestions for boys ages 8-15? And I%26#39;d like a nice place w/an indoor pool...condo or resort type (hoping off season will be reasonable.)
