Hi.
I%26#39;m planning to come for the first time in late april/early May. I was wondering what%26#39;s water like in this time of the year?
and also, park%26#39;s website warns about yellowflies/deerflies in spring.. is it really bad?
is the water warm enough to swim in late April/early May
The water is too cool for my liking that time of year. It%26#39;s still in the low 60%26#39;s. Here%26#39;s a web site with some more detail (http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/satl.html). I%26#39;m more comfortable at the end of May for swimming.
The weather is still fine for doing things outside and on the beach. The sun is strong enough to warm things up, it just takes a while to get the ocean warmed up.
I don%26#39;t have any problems with the flies at that time. When they are a problem, it%26#39;s usually the hot part of the summer when there%26#39;s no wind. It%26#39;s not to hard to avoid them by paying attention to the breeze (good when the breeze is coming off the water, bad when the breeze is blowing out of the woods).
Have a great time.
