Hi - does anyone have an Oak Island restaurant recommendation?
Anywhere recommended to eat at Oak Island?See my post for restaurants...I meant to post it as a reply for you, but it%26#39;s early...and well, read my post and happy eating!
Anywhere recommended to eat at Oak Island? We love to visit Provisions in nearby South Port. It is only a short 10-15 minute drive, and sits on the waterway. You can watch huge fishing boats come in while you dine outside and the atmosphere is great! The food is also wonderful and not that expensive. It is usually busy so be prepared, but it is an experience that you won%26#39;t soon forget. We eat there at least twice on every trip to Oak Island. Pretty much everything shuts down at 9:00 p.m. on the Island so plan to eat earlier than that. Great family vacation spot!!
Thanks so much!
The mexican place recommended by the first poster was good - the waiters were incredibly kind and accommodating, but the food was just ok that night (in fairness, they were about to close). Same comment as the 2nd poster - very important: everything on the island shuts down at 9, so don%26#39;t delay on your dinner plans.
Also, if you want to go eat in Wilmington, don%26#39;t be silly like us and drive there-we didn%26#39;t know there was a ferry, it%26#39;s faster %26amp; apparently cheap.
Loved Oak Island, can%26#39;t wait to go back!
On the Island -- Thai by the Sea, The Fish House at Bluewater Point, Latitudes at Yaupon Pier (which is pretty much a copy of Yacht Provision Co. in Southport - keep in mind though, NO A/C), Turtle Island, I%26#39;ve heard that the Mexican restaurant on Yaupon Drive is good but I havn%26#39;t been there, we sometimes go to Duffers at the Oak Island CC (great view -- good burgers %26amp; steaks -- but if there are a lot of smokers it will be terrible) and Edna%26#39;s is our favorite breakfast place but some people love Little Bits (never been there)
Over the causeway -- back at South Harbor area there is a great, fine Italian restaurant called Joseph%26#39;s.
I agree with everything people have said about Southport but I would add Oak Island Cafe %26amp; 317 West (not sure on name but it is across from Yacht Provision) as fabulous high-end meals. Hear that Mr. P%26#39;s and the Pharmacy are also good for high end dining.
Go to the Pharmacy in Southport. Great atmosphere with tin ceilings etc and very good food. Our family goes back every summer. Also at the far end of the island at the Blue Point Marina, I think is the name, is a nice place for seafood and views of the waterway. You can also rent jet skis there in the daytime. If you have a cottage and will be cooking yourself get shrip at Barb%26#39;s on the road to the island, and they have great pies, too.
Provisions was a mild disappointment.
Overpriced and overcooked. The view was nice.
Family friendly and all outdoor seating although smoking is permitted everywhere. For dinner, come before the 5PM rush or you will wait with the other tourists.
A very busy and efficient kitchen and wait staff. Avoid the nearby Flava ice cream and T-shirt shop operated by the same company. Although firendly service, the ice cream tasted like generic Sam%26#39;s Club.
I%26#39;ve been a ';part-timer'; at Oak Island for 30 years. Here%26#39;s where I get my fix:
Breakfast -- Russell%26#39;s at 57th St. and E. Oak Island Dr. *cash only*
My parents also like Lil%26#39; Bits.
Brunch/Lunch -- The Pharmacy across the bridge in Southport is unmatched (unique and memorable spin on crabcakes, the best Bloody Mary).
Late, casual lunch -- Crab cake burger and onion rings at Provisions near Southport Marina; Chaser%26#39;s (in the Yaupon part of Oak Island) has the perfect burger. Latitudes at Yaupon pier is also good.
Dinner -- Turtle Island all the way. Sometimes we eat there two nights in a row!
the crab cakes and boiled shrimp at the provison company are excellent!
On the island:
Turtle Island!!! Go for dinner. The food is outrageously good and the staff is super-friendly. I recommended this place to the VP at our company and he said they ate there three nights in a row!
Thai By The Sea - I just LOVE this place and make sure my family goes every single time I%26#39;m down. I wrote a review of it in the restaurant section.
Southport:
Provision Co. - Probably my favorite cheeseburger. You can%26#39;t beat the view on a clear day. Get there early!
