March visit w/ prospective student

I will be traveling to Asheville in March to visit Warren Wilson College with my son. We would like to get a good idea of what this town is all about, even though our stay will only be a few days. Please suggest lodging near the trendy areas and any other activity that would appeal to a 17 year old artsy musician (%26amp; mom) who loves the outdoors. Thanks!

Warren Wilson is in a beautiful setting a few miles from the small town of Black Mountain. Black Mountain is home to many religious retreats, the most famous of which is the Billy Graham center and Ridgecrest. WW is about 20 minutes from downtown Asheville which is full of galleries, music venues and great restaurants. The best hotels to stay in downtown Asheville would be the Haywood Park or Renaissance. There are several B %26amp;B%26#39;s that are within walking distance (1mi) of downtown. Parking is usually not an issue in Asheville as there are about 4 parking garages but if there is an event at the Civic Center these can even fill up.

No matter where you go you will be within 20-30 min of a lot of great hiking.

There are a number of B%26amp;Bs in the Montford neighborhood, near downtown Asheville. March is off-season, so I would check out this website

I have a 17 yr old artsy non-musician daughter, and she loves the stores on Lexington Av. There are also two really great restaurants on Lexington--Bouchon--great cozy atmosphere and serves ';French Comfort Food,'; and Mela, which is Indian/Thai and very nice. I must also mention that my daughter would eat at the Noodle Shop on Pack Sq. five times a week if I%26#39;d allow it!

If the weather%26#39;s nice, you two could have a really great time exploring downtown Asheville. Our art museum is downtown, and there are some wonderful galleries downtown and at the Biltmore Village. I would also suggest that if time permits, go see the Estate--it%26#39;s completely unique, if a monument to the Gilded Age. But you%26#39;ll need at least a half day to do it justice.

Good luck at WWC!
