No Place to stay : (

Hi All- Trying to book a motel online and it seems there are no rooms available anywhere for the weekend of 1/19-1/21. We are just 2 adults and one child. Want to stay within 20 miles of Banner elk/ Boone area and prefer an indoor pool. Would like to keep it under 150 per night.

I was just wondering if it%26#39;s normally so crowded/busy up there? Would we have better luck finding a place if we just look around when we get there? Any advice appreciated.

Try the Red Carpet Inn or the Scottish Inn. They both have rooms around 100.00 plus tax. I have no idea what these hotels are like. They are listed near Boone.

It is people coming in to ski on the weekend. That is why the hotels are full. Might be a college basketball game too.

you may have to drop the indoor pool idea to find a place.

Thanks for your replies. After much searching I found the Highland Hills Motel in Boone. No pool, but glad to get it considering how busy it seems to be this weekend.

Any special places nearby where I need to eat, shop, visit?

I%26#39;ve really enjoyed Coyote Cafe a couple of times. It is in a strip mall kind of place but it is child friendly and inexpensive. CHeck out chowhound.com for other suggestions and have a great trip!

I second Coyote Kitchen... probably my fave place to eat in Boone, but be forewarned the service is slow. Also try downtown Boone: Macados, Boone Bagelry, Murphy%26#39;s. You%26#39;ll find shopping in the downtown area as well. Enjoy!

I found a place that is like a motel, but had 2 recommendations from friends who been there. It%26#39;s called Cliff Dwellers Inn, in Blowing Rock. Just before Boone but near a lot. Im going on Sunday but they have rooms available. You can see them on line. No pool, but who needs during the winter? check it out www.cliffdwellers.com. By the way, Im from Jax originally. Live in Charlotte! Shirley

Have a good time. You and your child will like Capone%26#39;s Pizza on King Street in Boone. Never stayed at motel you metioned but have seen it. A good higher end ( but very do-able) restaurant in

boone is Casa Rustica. Near to where you are staying. Opens at 5pm

Did you like Highland Hills, it did not have good reviews? were there good ammenities?

Hi all, and thanks so much for all the info. Here%26#39;s my tr: We Floridians%26#39;s enjoyed seeing the snow and sampling the brisk ( 3 degrees Saturday night!) weather.

We ended up staying in one of the cabin duplex rooms at the Highland Hills. It was clean, roomy, and had a nice view. The desk staff were friendly and helpful. My only complaint was the water at the sink took forever just to get moderately warm. I would stay there again.

For eats the first night we had Mountain House. I would describe this as a local%26#39;s place. They have home cooked type food and good breakfast. Also had a giant fireplace which we sat right next to, and that was most welcomed. The second day we ate at Bandanas BBQ. It was pretty good, but we are spoiled by excellent BBQ here in Florida, so this didn%26#39;t seem to match up. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was friendly. In between we had sandwiches and bakery treats at The Ham Shoppe. This is 5 minutes down 105 at Valle Cruis. OMG was this gooood. They have all different kinds of sandwiches, not just ham. They are piled high on bakery bread of your choice. We all agreed these were the best sandwiches we had eaten in a long time. The place is take out only. In warmer months this would be a great place to stop and get food for a picnic.
