Things to do in and around Raleigh

Hi,

I%26#39;m due to be sent out to Raleigh on business for about 6 weeks.

I%26#39;m a 20 year old male and I%26#39;m really hoping to make the most of this opportunity and meet new people and have a good time when I%26#39;m not working.

Anyone got any suggestions/recommendation%26#39;s for when i%26#39;m there.

I love sports and partying, are there any American Football games due to be played around the 20th January - 28 February?

This would be my first time to the states.

All Ideas would be greatly appreciated ...

Mark

I%26#39;m not a sports expert, but basically in the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/ChapelHill) metro area, most football will be from the various universities. (Nearest NFL team is all the way down in Charlotte.) Check out the websites for NC State, UNC-CH, Duke, NCCU and so forth and see what games they have playing in that time period. Although I could be wrong...by then basketball is more common than football.

For partying in Raleigh, you basically wanto set your sights on the nightlife scene downtown. That%26#39;s the more dense urbanized area where restaurants, nightclubs, cafe%26#39;s and so on are concentrated together. Websites like downtownraleigh.com and downtownraleigh.org will be your best two sources for info on that...they have listings of types of places, things to do, etc.

Though do remember...in the US, you have to be 21 to drink so most of those nightclubs won%26#39;t let you in. (And the few that do will mark you with wristbands as underage and charge you high prices for soda.)

If u were coming in warmer weather I%26#39;d say head 2 hrs east and come see us at the beach, Wilmington is also a fun little town. When I was in Raleigh I enjoyed the museums, and liked Tir Na Nog I believe it was called for some good Irish pub experience. IMAX is also good to take in a movie. Being 20 yrs old, Im sure u will find lots of party places to hit up, there are so many college kids there. Have fun!

Football will be essentially wrapped up for the season by the time you arrive. I would suggest trying to get tickets to a college basketball game, as that season will be in full swing. University of North Carolina Chapel Hill or North Carolina State would be good choices. There are a lot of young people in the area due to the Universities, but as a previous poster mentioned, you may have a little bit of trouble with your age.

Have fun!

Raleigh has a National Hockey League team, the Carolina Hurricanes, Stanley Cup winners in 2006. They will be playing during the months of Jan. and Feb. Check schedules and tickets at http://hurricanes.nhl.com/ . They play at the same place as the North Carolina State basketball team.

Thanks for all your help guys!!
