Moving to Kannapolis/Concord area

Hi...

My husband and I are thinking of moving to the Kannapolis/Concord area.

My daughter got accepted at UNC@Greensboro, and we are soo excited for her. We%26#39;ve been wanting to move to NC for about 4 years, but wanted to wait till she graduated from HS.

Now%26#39;s our chance.

Can anyone give us pros/cons about this area??

We will probably rent until we can our feet on the ground, and live in the area before we commit to a house.

Thanks everyone. !!

Moving to Kannapolis/Concord area

I realize this post is almost a year old... but for anyone else who happens to be thinking along the same lines, here%26#39;s the dish on Concord, NC.

Concord, NC is an All-American City (received those honors in 2005), and is also listed as one of America%26#39;s Safest Cities. Concord is it%26#39;s own local melting pot bringing together southern hospitality, racing fanatics, Charlottian commuters, as well as the ever-growing latino community. I have lived here for many years and even though it is an ever-changing city, it is still your typical everyday neighborhood.

This city has something for everyone. It includes artistic museums and theatres, race attractions, as well as servicing as a hub to house those who want to be accessible to Charlotte, but not ';in'; Charlotte. Also serving as the stage for several major motion pictures, (most recent: ';Shallow Hal'; %26amp; ';Carrie 2: The Rage';) Concord does not disappoint in it%26#39;s culture nor historical landmarks.

The only cons about moving to Concord, NC are that you may find at times it%26#39;s too quiet. There are not too many activities for our youth which is something the city insists they are addressing. Aside from hanging out at the local burger joint, or catching movies, and visiting the Concord Mills mall (one of the largest in the Carolinas), there aren%26#39;t too many other activities for teens that do not have their own means of transportation.

Moving to Kannapolis/Concord area

Eriyanna,

I am moving to the Kannapolis/Concord area later this year from ATL (I think) to be closer to my daughter. Are there any ';bad'; areas in these two cities to avoid? I am looking at something around the Forest Park Elementary School (less than a mile from Walmart). Any info is appreciated as I visit every 3/4 weeks and need to start checking things out.

regards,

dcp2001,

There is a good reason that the cost of living is a bit higher in Concord than Kannapolis. Kannapolis is, for the most part, an industrial town. Built around the Fieldcrest Cannon industrial facilities and it%26#39;s subsidaries, it does have a tendency to be known for it%26#39;s ';less comfortable'; areas. Concord however, while it still does have a couple of these areas, you will want to check out the area you are specifically inquiring about yourself for your own opinions. What I consider to be a safe area may differ from your own personal opinion. In my experience, almost any area near a school, is usually a safe environment however can be subject to after-hours loiterers and arsenists from time to time.

It is best to consult online to read about some of the neighborhood safety reports if you have those accesible as well as investigate the area that you%26#39;re looking at yourself as well. You will also want to be sure to take into account for race traffic as we host two NASCAR races in the Charlotte-metropolitan area each year. Getting to work on any of these days is like trying to dodge a hurricane.

Most real estate agents will gladly provide you with some local school information (ratio from students to teachers) as well as the areas ranking for safety and security. They may even provide you with some references in the neighborhood that you could contact for some insight on the area. If you are not looking for a home and are considering an apartment, there are several resources online to give you listings, locations, etc. If you do decide on one particular area for home or apartment, please post about it and I will do my best to survey the area from my own standpoint.

Best of luck!

Eriyanna,

Thanks for the quick reply and info. I am pretty sure, after having 3 crack dealing houses around me in ATL, I can handle a few loiterers and such, and am looking fwd to a more relaxed safe area to live. Both areas seem nice and I am very interested in Kannapolis after having learned of the new research center being built there... can%26#39;t hurt home values and schools to have folks like that moving in. I%26#39;m looking to buy in the Forest Park Elementary area around Lake Concord, more or less west of the lake, if it is a safe are... although now I may need to look more closely at Concord again.

Thanks!

Hello,

We too are moving to the Kannapolis area and would appreciate any personal comments concerning the best schools in the area(elementary and high school). Target is opening a new store in town and we are relocating for this. Thanks in advance,

Marc

Concord is a great area and most schools are pretty good. There is a wide aray of homes/neighborhoods w/in a couple miles of where the Target is being built. Schools nearby that target are all good. Weddington Hills Elementary is top notch (2 miles from Target). J. Robinson High School is in same district and also quality.

thanks for the info, very helpful

My wife and I are looking at a property in Waterside Landing in Kannapolis. I spoke to the owner of the home next to the one I am considering and he told me nothing but good things about Kannapolis and Waterside Landing. If anyone else can give me some feedback I would really appreciate it. We are moving from Miami to North Carolina and want to be sure to pick a good area to raise our kids. Thanks,
