We are planning a family reunion the third week of June. My sister has rented a sizable house for us all and I believe it is Corolla. This will be my maiden voyage to the area. We are a beach bum type family so we need the folling information. First need food and beer, are there local grocery stores and do they sell beer We live in PA and here that is two different entities. Also interested in a ';feel'; for the town since our beach experience is usually South Jersey. Ages range from 16-60 so any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also interested in take out (chinese, pizza, etc

I grew up in DE and the ';shore';. This is totally different. No boardwalks, amusement parks or Mr. Peanut. Beautiful non crowded beaches. You can actually have your own ';space'; on the beach without people walking all over you towel to get to the water. Much more laid back , but with nice shopping and restaurants for all tastes.
These are some of the reasons you will see all the NJ, NY, DE, and PA license plates!
If you want more more touristy things, you can always head down to Nag%26#39;s Head, about a 30 minute drive.
In NC, liquor is sold at an ABC store, beer and wine at the grocery. There are several grocery stores in the Corolla area, as well as ABC.
You will love it and may never go to the Jersey shore again!

You can really veg out or be as active as you like in the quieter areas of the north and south.
If you find out the community....say Corolla Light or Currituck, etc. within Corolla (there are lots of communities within every town) we can help you even more specifically as well.
Remember that handy word search option on top of these forum posts....not only the one on the left green field, although that%26#39;s great too...but on top of these forum posts. A word search for any topic you like will bring up tons of info from people who have already posted tons of info on things to do and places to go for all ages. There are so many towns in the OBX that you can search all of their forums...or search via the NC forum to catch them all.

Harris Teeter is the grocery store on route 12 at the entrance of the Currituck Club near Crown Point.
I agree that after Corolla you will never go to a crowded beach again. Favorite restaurants: North Banks at the Timbuck II for great food, Tomato Patch if you%26#39;re with a large group and just want Pizza and pasta - great for families, China King has terrific Chinese takeout. I%26#39;m writing this from my home in Corolla - love being here in the middle of winter when the seagulls are the only other inhabitants.
In Crown Point you will be very close to both the Harris Teeter and the Food Lion grocery stores. As stated earlier, both sell beer and wine. The ABC liquor store is not far either.
The Timbuk II shopping center is very close to you as well. I believe they have a website and you can get more info from there.
Check out the Currituck County visitor website for even further lists of things to do, etc.
Although there is a Chinese place in the Food Lion shopping center, I don%26#39;t actually know anyone who has ever had the food from there. Try Corolla Pizza up near the lighthouse for pizza. Also, be sure to have some NC BBQ. It%26#39;s vinegar based, not tomato based, so be sure you know what to expect when you get it.
Things to do in the area:
Currituck Lighthouse, Whalehead Club historical tour, wild horse tours in the 4X4 area, mini golf, go carts, surf lessons, Wright Memorial and Jockey%26#39;s Ridge down south, Manteo, Lost Colony, and just enjoying the beach.
Food Lion for beer.
Harris Teeter has a better selection of beer %26amp; wine though but it’s pricier. The Harris Teeter food selection is by far better than Food Lion. Excellent seafood and produce. I agree that TimbuckII has a lot to offer, dining, shopping etc. and all close by. However I would stock up on the hard stuff at the ABC on the way up rte 12 or better yet come stocked already.
Being a fellow beach bum, I can tell you that the Corolla beaches are heaven. Clean soft sand and uncrowded. It’s definitely a laid back beach bumming toes in the sand drink in the hand kind of place. Last year was my first trip and I’m already booked for next year!
