travelling with small children

We are an English/Australian couple planning a road trip across the south east of USA in April. We have two small children (aged 4 %26amp; 2). On this forum we need some advice re our drive from Charleston to Memphis. There is no time limit. Any recommendations on what we should see and child friendly accomodation? Ideally we would like a scenic drive and stops in national parks (if poss) We just have a car (no trailer/tent etc). We are open to suggestions on the route. thanks

Are you coming through NC? What route?

we have no real plans...thus open to suggestions on the route.

Here%26#39;s a possibility - I-26 from Charleston up to Asheville, NC.( get off I-26 in Spartanburg, SC and eat at The Beacon Drive-In!) When you get to Asheville, drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Cherokee and see the Indian sites there ( museum, drama, shops etc...) - cross the mountains over to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, TN.

You could go to Dollywood ( Dolly Parton%26#39;s amusement park featuring Blue Ridge mountain culture). Also- good shows and lots to see and do in the Pigeon Forge area. Rent a cabin there - hundreds available and they are often luxurious ( and, not much more than a hotel room in April!). You can also visit the Great Smoky Mtns. National Park while there ( be sure to see Cade%26#39;s Cove!).

From there you can pick up I-40 and head through TN to Nashville ( home of country music). 40 will take you on into Memphis.

Just a few ideas - best wishes.
