Areas to Stay -Hotel/Motel

Looking for a MODERATE Hotel/Motel in nice area, University Place, Dillworth, etc.South Park seems very pricey

Area where there is good Breakfest/Dinner choices. Also rec%26#39;s on places to eat- Breakfest-Dinner

Areas to Stay -Hotel/Motel

There are some moderate chains in the Ballantyne area, the Staybridge Suites (which has free breakfast and evening reception), Courtyard and a Residence Inn. All in very safe parts of town, near the highway, good dining options. Before I moved down here stayed at the Best Western Crown Suites near the Carolina Place Mall in Pineville. There is a Hampton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn there, but I don%26#39;t love that side of the street, is a bit more busy.

We eat cheap when we eat out, so don%26#39;t have too many recommendations there, it depends on what type of food and how much you want to spend. There are few really cool CA type places (with a NC twist) in the Plaza Midwood area (Penguin, Common Market). A co-worker who came down here liked City Range a lot. Hickory Tavern is another place people enjoy. I%26#39;m sure more of the locals who spend more than $7 an on entree (not me :)), will respond.

Safe Travels!

Areas to Stay -Hotel/Motel

Thanks for the Response. I too like it on tjhe cheap. So where should we eat in the Ballentine area??

It really depends on the where you want to be in relation to what you will be doing. Personally, I would stick with the South Park area. It is centrally located and there are multitudes of very goog restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. in South Park and up and down Providence Rd. of all types and in all price ranges (except maybe not cheap)

maybe I should qualify my choices of Areas. Will be driving the next morning to Asheville via RTE 74-towards Lake Lure

What about Gastonia Area?

Holiday Inn Express at Belmont/Mt. Holly exit - just across the river from Charlotte - uncrowded area..on the way to your destination. Lots of good , economical dining nearby. I recommend the Captain%26#39;s Cap - just a mile or so from the hotel.

A couple of exits west you%26#39;ll find Cracker Barrel...and there%26#39;s also a Waffle House near the HIE in Belmont. Plenty of fast food choices in the area as well. And just a couple of miles from the hotel is Demetrios for Italian, Greek, and home cooking.

I do not recommend staying in Gastonia off I-85 - too many car break-ins ( though the Courtyard Marriott there is pretty nice.

Best wishes.

Bud, Checked the Holiday Inn Express in Belmont and want over$110/night Is thereare motels not so expensive. How is stayng in Pineville?

It depends where you stay in Pineville. There is a bit of crime in that area since it is really close to the interstate, but is mostly commercial burglaries. We stayed at the Best Western Crown Suites and liked it and was cheap (at least a few years back). Is on a quiet road off the main drag (Pineville/Matthews) and is near a lot of restaurants. There is a Hampton Inn and a Hilton Garden Inn, I don%26#39;t love where they are located, but would be fine for one night. I would stay away from the Choice Hotels in that area, just don%26#39;t seem all that nice.

Good luck!

What dates are you coming? Rates are set by supply and demand...that HIE is usually cheaper than Charlotte properties..he must be nearing capacity.

Anyway - it%26#39;s on your way to A%26#39;Ville. Pineville is the other direction and will have lots of traffic. but, there%26#39;s a lot of shopping and dining there. I would avoid the University area...there%26#39;s nothing cheap in Dilworth and Southpark will be quite expensive as well.

Best wishes.

Charlotte is just over 2 hours to Asheville. Gaffney is about half way off of I-85. It%26#39;s really an outlet mall exit, but has some decent chain hotels and restaurants.

Bud and FRiends, It appears that Hotel near Dillworth is the Best Western Sterling on Woodlawn farily close and only $64 AAA Rate
