FishCamp Recommendation Wanted

Many years ago, in another life, I was taken by ex-in-laws to what was called a fish camp someplace outside of Gastonia/Kings Mountain. Of course I burned that bridge and wouldn%26#39;t think of asking ex-in-laws for the name of the place. I%26#39;ll never forget the absolutely outstanding fish dinner we had. I recollect that it was in the woods somewhere, and that we had to stand in line for nearly an hour just to get seated. As I remember the place was pretty rustic and open aired and you could watch them cook as you stood in line. Anybody know what I am talking about and is there any possibility it could still be open? Searched high and low and can%26#39;t find many references to fishcamps, except that there are quite a few in Gaston County and serve te best seafood in the state.

FishCamp Recommendation Wanted

At one time, Gaston County had over 40 fish camps - not quite that many now but there are still a lot! The best right now are Graham%26#39;s and Twin Tops on New Hope Rd. Big Man%26#39;s is located at the old Lineberger%26#39;s on New Hope - Lineberger%26#39;s was one of the places people stood in line for an hour. Big Man%26#39;s is good but they also serve BBQ now. Over toward the King%26#39;s Mountain side is a fish camp on Freedom Mill Rd that%26#39;s been under several names - it%26#39;s currently a Captain%26#39;s Cap.

Captain%26#39;s Cap is a ';newcomer'; but quite good too! At the Catawba River ( Gaston/Meck line) is Riverview Inn - the original fish camp from the 1940s. They have a good buffet a couple of nights a week.

We do have the best seafood in the state. When I go to the coast, I can%26#39;t wait to get home to get REALLY good seafood! LOL.

Best wishes.

Hey bud, just the guy is was hoping would reply. Saw you mention fishcamps on another post. When you wrote about Linebergers, a small light went off in my head. I am thinking that was the name of the place. Was it as I described; openaired, long lines, watch them cook etc? Too bad they went out of business. If you had your choice and only one chance to visit, which would you pick?

I%26#39;m sure it was Lineberger%26#39;s - they were famous for their lines! LOL. Anyway - old Mrs. Lineberger died a few weeks ago - she was in her 90s. Their restaurant burned down some years ago and it was rebuilt and sold...then sold again and now it%26#39;s ';Big Man%26#39;s';. Just one choice? Hmmmm. probably Graham%26#39;s or Twin Tops - Graham%26#39;s I guess. Best wishes!

There is a place in Dallas, NC (just up the road from Gastonia- north on 321) called Northstar that is cheap and good for fish. Mostly fried types but this place is where we prefer to go. It is good

You might be talking about Riverview Fish Camp just across the Catawba River from Belmont on the left....Graham%26#39;s fish fry and Twin Tops on S. New Hope Rd are good so is Riverside Fish Camp on the Dallas-Stanley highway or try Long Creek on N. New Hope Rd........good eats at all...........

I am sure it was Lineberger%26#39;s! It was my grandparents restraunt and how I miss going there! The lines were always quite long but very much worth the wait. They had a large candy counter at the front of the store where once you got in the door from waiting was on the other side of the ropes. Waiting for you when you finished dinner. They had A - W seating sections that had up to 12 tables per section. You had 2 kitchens that you could watch them in and my grandmother sat in the call booth in the middle of the restraunt making sure tables were cleared and reseated as fast as they could be. As a child I helped bus tables and will never forget how much fun that was. The other thing I will never forget is how Twin Tops and Grahams were never competition to my grandparents, just more good food. Enjoy either one of them.

You%26#39;re right h - it didn%26#39;t matter which fish camp you went to on Fri or Sat night- they were all packed! And, pretty much still are!

don%26#39;t know for sure what place you are asking about, but i do know that captain will%26#39;s in cherryville is excellent! yum yum.

there is nothing finer than eating a at southern fish camp. i just never realized how many were still out there. i am marking all this down for future research. thanks for the reccomendations! they all look like just what i%26#39;d look for when looking for the perfect fish supper.

Long Creek fish camp in Dallas is the best place to get a really huge ,hot plate of fish everything is always hot and fresh the building is not much to look at but the food inside is excellent I also think they have the best salt and pepper fish try it you will love it.
