If I%26#39;m not mistaken, they do this frequently , if not always , to help minimize crowding. The trick is get to the house early or very late in the day.

Timed entry means that you go to the house and sign up for a time. The best thing to do is have someone in your party go as soon as the gate opens (probably as early as 8 this time of year), and sign up for, say 10:30 that day. Get the ticket stamped so you can return, then leave and go have breakfast and return for your time.
It%26#39;s handy to be staying fairly close to the estate--there are several inns close by (Biltmore Village Inn, North Lodge, Cedar Crest, Corner Oak Manor) and several motels (Doubletree, Baymont, Howard Johnson).
