Do you mean you don%26#39;t want to drive after you get there? Many of the ski resorts don%26#39;t have adjacent lodging that%26#39;s walkable. You will need to check some place like Beech Mountain and get a slopeside rental. Best wishes.

About the only places I know of are either Beech Mountain or you could try Sugar Mountain.

I%26#39;ve stayed in a nice cabin at Sugar, within walking distance to the slopes (in my memory). That would be a good first-timer trip. Or you could also consider staying in downtown Blowing Rock and taking a shuttle to Appalachian Ski Mountain, which is very first-timer friendly. Blowing Rock would be a good home base, because there isn%26#39;t much around Sugar Mountain.

Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley has some great beginners slopes, but I don%26#39;t think there is any lodging within walking distance. There is Cataloochee Ranch with cabins to rent, and it%26#39;s very close, but not that close.

Good luck!
