Inexpensive but clean place to stay with pets

Hi all, first post to this site.

i%26#39;m planning a trip to the OBX area in december (arrive on the 26th actually) and was hoping someone could recommend an inexpensive but pet friendly (two 50+lbs dogs) motel/hotel. Planning on relocating to the area so I%26#39;m looking for something that%26#39;s centrally located (going to look at Moyock, NC and a few other towns). Has anyone ever stayed at Midway Marina in coinjock? Someone mentioned the cavalier motel in KDH, is this a decent motel to stay at (clean, friendly, etc.). Any places to stay in Point Harbor?

Also are there any special holiday events going on during the month of december? I%26#39;d love to visit the vineyards on Knotts Island, how are they? Has anyone ever visited the Harbinger lavender farm? would there be anything to see in december?

thanks in advance.

Inexpensive but clean place to stay with pets

Hi surfingatwork and welcome to the forum!

The Comfort Inn South Oceanfront in Nags Head allows dogs, with an extra fee. Also, the Finn %26#39;N Feather Waterside Inn (located on the sound) in Nags Head allows dogs. Also, try the Clarion on the Ocean in Kill Devil Hills.

If you wish to consider rental homes, there are many that allow pets. All you need to do is visit their webpages and select ';allows pets'; on your query.

There are restrictions in certain areas sometimes depending on the time of year and I have included those in case you plan on visiting other areas with your dogs:

Corolla - Pets allowed on the beach with a year round leash law.

Southern Shores - No dogs allowed on the beach during the summer months. Year-round leash law.

Kitty Hawk - Dogs are not allowed on the beach May 15-September 15. They are allowed with a leash (not exceeding 6 ft. in length) in the offseason months September 16-May 14.

Kill Devil Hills - Dogs are allowed on the beach from mid-September to mid-May.

Nags Head - Dogs are allowed on the beach year round with a leash not exceeding 10 ft. in length.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore - Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round if they are restrained on a leash 6 ft. or less.

Ocracoke Island - Pets allowed on the beach with a year round leash law.

Here are a couple of links that show events in December and January:

Great suggestions for places to stay listed above. I live on the OBX, and would be more than happy to answer questions you have. The Travel-Lodge in Kill Devil Hills also takes pets, but they have received mixed reviews. I know the Ramada (also in K. D. Hills) takes pets, and they are a nice hotel.

In December, things can be pretty quiet here! I am not sure about visiting the vineyards that time of year-not sure how much there would be to see. In Harbinger, there is Native Vine which is a wine shop, and I think they also have a vineyard tour. Keep in mind that Moyock is about an hour from Kill Devil HIlls, so they are close, but not right around the corner from each other. As far as other things to do, I have not been to the lavendar farm, but Manteo has some good attratcions with the botanical gardens, nice shops and restaurants, the aquarium, etc.

If you would like, email me with some more specific questions, and I%26#39;ll try to help. Also, if you need any Realtor/Relacation info, I have several friends who are in the biz, and may be able to help.

How long would you like to stay?

This past September my husband and I used Wright Property Management (www.wpmobx.com) for our rental home. We traveled with our two 50+lb. dogs and were able to keep our cost to them under $900 for the week. That%26#39;s including rent, taxes, travel insurance and fees. Our home was clean and well equipped for our needs. We stayed the first week of September for a price break and I%26#39;m sure it would be even better for December. They might be able to rent to you for a couple of days instead of a full week too.

I%26#39;m unfortunately unfamiliar with dog friendly hotels in the area but another useful website is www.petswelcome.com. Hope you %26amp; your dogs enjoy the Outer Banks as much as we do!

thank you everyone for the information. i%26#39;ll definitely check out the recommended places to stay and thanks molly for all the dog related information. We%26#39;re only going to be in NC for 5 days. The reason we chose december is because it will be quiet and peaceful and easier for us to check things out (no traffic to worry about). Do either of you know a restaurant/pub to go to so we can listen to country music (new country) or a place that might have a band playing? Doesn%26#39;t have to be on OBX, could be in Elizabeth City or VA. We visited Morehead City last year and went to Midnight Rodeo and had a blast. Thanks again for your help.

Hi! I was in the Outer Banks at the beginning of October and we stayed in the Cavalier Motel. They do allow pets there. It is a local family owned motel right on the beach. The rates are very good. The rooms are basic but they do have a microwave/fridge. They are clean though the decor is a bit outdated. The hotel also has a playground and a pool though I doubt you would be using it in Dec.

I know that winters are usually cold in the OBX, but I would imagine that you could still see the lighthouses (Don%26#39;t miss them!) and the Wright Brother%26#39;s memorial as well.
