Any suggestions are welcome.

you could call around and find out who has trout....Red Rocker Inn, The Bistro....not a whole lot to choose from in Black Mountain. Lots more options in Asheville and it is only 20 min away.

Spirits on the River is a Native American restaurant in East Asheville. They do have trout on the menu. They do not always have everything listed on the menu. I recommend that you call to see what they have and when they are open since it is a very small restaurant and their hours seem to vary. They have alligator, pheasant, crawfish (already shelled), bison (I think), fry bread, fried corn on the cob and more. The food is served in a very basic manner, but everything I have had there has been good. This is not a ';fancy'; place. If it is warm enough, I do recommend the outside seating. The deck is right on the Swannanoa River. Very quiet, even though the restaurant fronts right on the road. I was peacefully enjoying the river one evening when I spotted an otter playing in the river.

It%26#39;s not far from Black Mountain. Just get on 70 west (maybe 10+ miles) and when you pass the VA hospital on the right look for the Ingles grocery store on the left. Go through the stoplight and turn left onto Swannanoa River Road (81) at the next light. Follow Swannanoa River Road for a mile or so, passing the municipal golf course on the right, go through the next light and you will see a little terra cotta colored building on the left with a tree bark roof. This is Spirits on the River. Dress is very casual. Price is moderate. I would describe the atmosphere as almost rustic. The inside dining area had some Indian art, dreamcatchers, etc. I think that some of it is for sale.

The best mountain trout I ever had....actually the best meal I have ever had was at the Red Rocker Inn, Blackmountain, NC , summer of 2007 - what a wonderful, quaint town!
